| Poor Sailor Moon got delayed hard. Given how I just barely managed to save my computer from potential hard drive failure, some data loss is a small price to pay. Chapter #13-1 - Twisted Fate I ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spoiler:
Last time on Sailor Moon Another Story, we split the team into two to deal with a massive problem. The Inners are storming Apsu’s Castle while the Outers (and Chibi) are trying to take back Crystal Tokyo. Fun reminder: If you’re at this point of the game and you haven’t gotten everything, you’re kinda screwed. I really do hate Lost Forever scenarios, so if I were to ever make my own game I would work hard as hell to circumvent that. "I’ll save you."I think we should say that about ourselves first because the enemies in here are no joke. Name: Grisina HP: 9000 Attack: 115 Defense: 42 Speed: 90 EXP: 13543 Yen: 4000 Item Drop: Toilette (Full restore to everyone in the party) Monster Type: Plant Alien Based off of: Xenian Flower* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon R Movie So while it may not be obvious, this is the big bad of the Sailor Moon R movie in her battle form (as ordinarily, she would actually be the size of a normal flower). She's the one who pulled Fiore's strings and is the leader of the Campanulas and Dahlians from before. Why is she a random monster? I don't think it really matters, especially since that same question could also be applied to other unique one-offs, but hot damn if that experience isn't delicious for only one monster. The fact she drops the Megalixir of this game makes it even more tempting to grind against her. ... Okay, we've had merchants in weird places so far but this one takes the fuckin' cake. How did this guy get into Apsu's secret fortress of doom? I'm astonished none of the monsters or even the Opposito have noticed he even got in here, so I can only conclude he's some sort of higher dimension being. Thank god he doesn't take an offensive role. Name: Combater A HP: 7600 Attack: 92 Defense: 40 Speed: 112 EXP: 7300 Yen: 2000 Item Drop: Fragrance (Boosts attack for everyone in the party for one battle) Monster Type: Youma(?) Based off of: Nothing in particular * If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Here's the last of the Combater enemies, aka. generic monster women in jumpsuits. That said, while they lack personality, they sure make up for it with their generous rewards. Ooh right, I never showed these off, did I? These are special attacks that take everyone in the team to pull off and change based on what formation you're currently in. Sailor Planet Attack is the exception, however, as it can only be pulled off by a full team of Inner Senshi. That is an amazing attention to detail but also very costly as it eats up everyone's MP at once. It's better used as a final attack more than anything else. Cluster Attack looks pretty sick, and the other attacks even have their own special sprites/animations. I'll have to show them off when the let's play's over. The front two members aren't normally as strong as the person in the center, but seeing damage like this from them is still really good. Name: Snow Kaguya HP: 8500 Attack: 97 Defense: 43 Speed: 89 EXP: 12738 Yen: 4500 Item Drop: Cologne (Full MP restore to everyone in the party) Monster Type: Snow alien Based off of: Princess Snow Kaguya ( Manga / Movie) * If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon S Movie Alright Apsu just has all the main movie villains as her underlings. Given how it took... well, an entire movie just to kill them this is definitely fine. Nonsense aside, Snow Kaguya was a powerful alien that went around freezing over planets to keep them as part of her collection. She's kind of like the polar opposite of Pyron from Darkstalkers: he has fire and she has ice, but they both want cosmic playthings. In hindsight it's not too surprising given how we've already fought the Snow Dancers and again, the plant aliens, but it's still pretty wacky. (Also yes, she is wearing pretty much nothing up there. Her full image reference in the manga has her nipples showing, which I don't think I could get away with) She's basically a buffed-up Snow Dancer, and just as annoying. I don't think anybody got severely damaged by this but full-party attacks are never fun. Name: Doorknob HP: 5000 Attack: 110 Defense: 47 Speed: 75 EXP: 6400 Yen: 2000 Item Drop: Bentou Set (Full HP restore to everyone in the party) Monster Type: Daimon Based off of: Doorknobder* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon S, Episode 20 Name: U-Bahra HP: 4000 Attack: 97 Defense: 45 Speed: 98 EXP: 8500 Yen: 3000 Item Drop: Nigiri Set (300 HP restore to everyone in the party) Monster Type: Daimon Based off of: U-Baulla* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon S, Episode 27 Doorknobder is like the funniest Daimon in the entire show. You see, unlike most of the others who are determined to hunt down the Pure Heart of whatever person is unfortunate to cross them... she was summoned as a distraction while her handler runs away. I don't think it's wrong to say she got a raw deal when she still gets blasted by Sailor Moon's Spiral Heart Attack, yeah? U-Baulla is much less interesting barring a part where she thought Tuxedo Mask was a copycat for also using roses to attack. I love little interactions like that, and I wish they were incorporated more often. Battle-wise, these Daimons can be frustrating due to Fascination having increasingly better accuracy as the game goes along. [One grind session later]Yeah, uh. Bye.It's ridiculous just how strong we are given what I've already explained for Kaguya's accomplishments in the movie. Just how strong are we?!I bet you that if buffs were visible, these girls would be giant musclebutts by now. Whoaaa that looks funky. It's fun to screencap area transitions, especially in older games like this. For some reason this area is blocked. I have a feeling this is Apsu's room, but I don't remember if we're ever able to enter it. : "Oh? Are you awake now?": "Wh... Who are you?": "I am called Sin."If I were Shingo I would be concerned as to why this stranger has a striking resemblance to my sister. Like let’s be honest, Sin is just Usagi without the buns or kindness. : "If you keep quiet, I won’t do anything to you.": "You think I’ll do what one of the bad guys tell me?"That... that is a very dangerous attitude to have in a hostage situation. : "Ohhh… hehe.": : "Ah, sorry for laughing. I have a little brother too."I’m curious if Sin actually regrets doing this, if just a little bit. She knows how painful it is to lose family members. : "Eh? Well…": "My little brother is cute… I think I would do anything for his sake.": "Usagi… She isn’t like that. She always steals my food and uses my games.": "She does those awful things?"(Even the bad guy is appalled by Usagi's poor sister-ness. That's just hilarious.) : "B-but she was always there when I was sick. Even when I’m being disobedient she worries about me.": "That’s strange. Though she is a bad sister... Do you like her?": "Don’t speak badly of my sister!"Lemme just take the time to mention how much I adore how the entire game has built up this brother-sister dynamic, as well as applying it to the villains. Not only does this make the plot with Sin and Anshar interesting by itself, but when you factor Usagi and Shingo’s dysfunctional-but-loving relationship as a parallel... it’s honestly kind of brilliant. I also like how Sin is unused to the idea of treating her brother badly and vice versa due to them getting along so well. It puts stuff into perspective a bit. : "Eh? Sailor Moon is?"The cavalry’s coming. : "Alright, I’m going right away. Shingo-kun, sleep some more. This time it will be for a bit longer."[She puts him back to sleep with a spell]: "First, we shall strike Sailor Moon with an illusion."Again? You guys keep trying the same stuff and expect it work, huh? : "Somehow, space seems to be getting all distorted… Hm? What’s this?"[The screen goes black and the other Senshi disappear]: "Guys? Where are you?"[She walks around for a bit, only for Sin’s voice to break the silence]: "Sailor Moon. You have been abandoned by your friends...": "No way! I believe in all of them. Besides, that distorted world is a creation of yours."
Hell yeah we believe in them. I’m also glad she sees that it’s an illusion because come on, you can’t fall for the same trick more than once. : "Hehe, perhaps. But how will you find this world, I wonder..."[Fade to black]We’ve seen this song and dance before. Long story short, Chibi-Usa came back from playing with Momo. Dream Usagi and Mamoru get all lovey-dovey and honestly if they expect this to work then they’ve got another thing coming. : "Ah... I...": "If you hand over the Mystic Silver Crystal, I can grant you the fate you just saw.": "That’s wrong. That’s really wrong. Because everyone doesn’t want to change their fate. The people of the Black Moon, for example, were saddened to have their fate changed."… Not exactly the answer I was expecting but she still fends it off like I hoped. Don’t underestimate Usagi when she’s in a pinch, she’ll figure you out. Sin realizes that, no, we’re not just going to give up the incredible powerful and integral plot macguffin just to get a destiny that we already know will happen. Chibi-Usa’s very existence is proof enough that Usagi will be in a happy relationship. Put up your dukes, cause I’m ready for you. : "It’s okay... Let’s hurry, I can feel Shingo near."Man, poor Artemis. He can barely do anything because unlike his Opposito counterpart, he can’t fight. Yeah, he can bite and scratch but that can only do so much against the forces of darkness. [The Opposito show up one-by-one, with each one greeting their Inner counterpart]: "I’m glad we could meet again, Sailor Mercury.": "I thought you would come for sure, Sailor Jupiter.": "Hohoho… It’s been a while, Sailor Venus."You gotta keep in mind that they wouldn’t have this dialogue if you didn’t bring the Inners. Gotta have it match, even if it means giving up Sailor Pluto’s ridiculously useful Time Stop ability. [Sin shows up in the middle]: "You’re as strong as always, Sailor Moon.": "So it’s a gathering of all the Opposito Senshi, right?": "How was it? Our illusion, I mean... Bet you enjoyed it.": "That illusion? No way..."Rei is still partially lying but she’s mature enough to not chase it. : "Even though we showed you the life you wish for... Our patience has limits.": "That fate is disgusting! We’re not weak like you are!"That’s the most vicious thing Venus has ever said to the bad guys… and honestly it makes perfect sense. Ishtar is even the weakest Opposito and they’ve clearly run out of options. : "My, my. You’re not weak after seeing yourself in that illusion?": "You violated a taboo by changing destinies the way you wanted.": "It’s not too late, though. Turn those destinies back to normal!": "Too bad for you, we happen to like those destinies."I think they’re referring to the altered histories they’ve applied to the characters, aka. Haruka not being part of the race team and etc. It’s been a while since I played this game and the direction of the writing sometimes is not helping. : "Surrender, Opposito Senshi!"She said the thing!: "Hmph! Now is the time to settle the score! Consider this our final battle!!"[Current OST: Opposito Senshi Boss Theme]Name: Marduk (2) HP: 32098 Attack: 168 Defense: 65 Speed: 131 EXP: 32750 Yen: 42000 Item Drop: Moon Shard (Cures 120 HP) Allegiance: Opposito Senshi Official Art: Here* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Name: Nergal (3) HP: 30765 Attack: 167 Defense: 67 Speed: 131 EXP: 32750 Yen: 35000 Item Drop: Fragrance (Boosts attack for everyone in the party for one battle) Allegiance: Opposito Senshi Official Art: Here* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Rude Crude Dudes AlertOooh shit, we're fighting multiple bosses at the same time. I don't think the game has done something like that so far, so that makes this extra tense. The Opposito are no joke at this point in the game either - they're super buff and work as a team, so you really do have to grind a bit so you can stand a chance. While not optimal, our damage numbers are still pretty good. I didn't even put up a Fragrance for this fight but that's also for a very good reason. Here's Dark Thunder from Marduk, seeing as she's Jupiter's evil counterpart. Yeah, the Opposito use the same attacks as the Ayakashi Sisters from before, but due to the higher numbers they're far scarier here. H-Lame Heart...? I'm pretty sure that's a mistranslation, but I'm more disturbed by how three Senshi are already dead. Yeah, in all of my years of let's playing, this is one of the few times where I think The Rude Crude Dudes alert is actually deserved. Seeing Fascination over one of their deadlier attacks can be a sigh of relief, even if it means you have to waste some time removing the Charm effect. This attack which seems like squiggly lines all over the screen is actually Hell Thunder, the even-more-powered up version of Dark Thunder and Marduk's signature move. If any of the Opposito pull out the Hell- tier attacks, you better hope your guys can survive it. Even with Nergal (presumably) debuffed thanks to Shabon Spray, she still does this much damage to us. That's pretty terrifying. Getting a level up here can actually be lifesaving due to the little-known fact that your HP is fully restored upon every level up. Also, the Fragrance is always appreciated. Name: Nabu (3) HP: 34750 Attack: 170 Defense: 69 Speed: 131 EXP: 33735 Yen: 35000 Item Drop: Fragrance (Boosts attack for everyone in the party for one battle) Allegiance: Opposito Senshi Official Art: * If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Name: Ishtar (2) HP: 30765 Attack: 164 Defense: 70 Speed: 131 EXP: 32750 Yen: 4000 Item Drop: Moon Drop (Cures 60 HP) Allegiance: Opposito Senshi Official Art: * If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Not much to say about Ishtar and Nabu aside from... ... Them breaking Mars like a porcelain doll. (Dark Water and Hell's Freezing) They really aren't messing around anymore folks. They really did mean this being the final battle, cause they're pulling out all the stops and you should too. Can you imagine how unfair the game would be if we were forced to fight all five Opposito at once? It would be absolutely hellish. Here's Ishtar finally acting like an evil Venus and using Hell's Shower. It hurts just as much our version to boot. A ton of item spam later and we manage to overcome the first four Opposito. It was certainly a bit difficult, but nothing we can't deal with. Name: Sin (2) HP: 44321 Attack: 172 Defense: 70 Speed: 134 EXP: 45432 Yen: 35000 Item Drop: Manicure (Boosts attack for one person) Allegiance: Opposito Senshi Official Art: * If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Ultimate Sin is nothing to scoff at though, because even on her own she's pretty terrifying. Her attacks consist of Hell Surge (left) and Hell Attack (right) - they deserve those names for a reason because they're kinda ridiculous. Despite Usagi herself being the tank/heart of the team, her evil counterpart is an out-and-out beast in terms of damage. With this in mind, it's more believable that their own Sailor Planet Attack managed to kick Mamoru into a nigh-uncurable coma. Speaking of which... [The Inners release Sailor Cluster Attack!]I'd say we did a good job at roasting her into brown bread. [Current OST: Sadness]: "Don’t, Nergal! Our capacities are too different from those of the Sailor Senshi.": "Damn! So we can’t win against the real thing after all?": "No, our strength mustn’t be lower than theirs. Isn’t that right, Sin?": [Ellipses]: "Sin! This is why we came here! Do you want it all to be in vain? Answer me! Sin!"We beat them so badly that we left them questioning their goals. Sounds about right. : "Sailor Moon, now’s your chance! We just might be able to turn the Opposito Senshi back to normal human beings.""Moon Healing Escalation!"[A blue light covers all of the Opposito]: "Ugh... this is... That’s right... I was given my strength by Apsu-sama and then... I’m sorry for what I did up to now...": "It’s alright... everything is over for you now.": "Thank you so much, Sailor Mars. We vow not to be seduced into having our fate manipulated.": "The next time we meet... We’ll be friends!": "Yes, let us have a chess match then!"I’m curious. How much of the girls being evil was them being manipulated by Apsu and how much of it was genuine hate for the Sailors? Either way, this seems pretty typical for a Sailor Moon villain arc. (For the 90's anime, anyway) : "Yeah! I’m your buddy too, tee-hee! "[Everyone sweats]: "Uhm, yeah... Ishtar sure was a strange girl..."That’s pretty funny, though. Even when she gets redeemed she’s still really annoying. : "Jupiter, I caused you a lot of trouble...": "I already put it out of my mind. Well, if it becomes dangerous for you again, flee!"[The Opposito walk out of the room]: "With this, a normal life is awaiting those girls...""I’ve got to go with everyone. Sin?": "I... I... I can’t believe this! The fate I believe in is this current life. For Anshar... I can’t die here!"Wait, wh- [Sin teleports away][Current OST: Intro]Well shit. Guess it takes more than even Sailor Moon’s purification powers to heal Sin’s grief. : "Sin! Why..." : "Sailor Moon, like your thoughts for Shingo... Sin’s thoughts towards her brother Anshar are as strong as anyone else. That is why the Silver Crystal didn’t work."Makes sense. I’m really digging the direction this is going in, cause this is a better plot point than just having Sin be instantly redeemed. : "Sin... OH! Shingo! Is he okay!?"[She runs over to her unconscious brother]: "Shingo… Shingo!": "Shush... Shingo is asleep.""He’s so cute when he’s asleep. But when he’s awake, he’s so snobbish.": "Don’t say things like that!": "That’s right, Sailor Moon. I’ve always wanted a brother like Shingo.": "Sorry, everyone. I’m always so selfish because he’s my real brother. Thanks for everything."Aww, isn’t that sweet. Honestly I can kind of relate. : "Shingo is like a brother to us all."Strange comment but I can see what she means. : "You lucky kid, having all these pretty girls around you."Shingo is lucky that he was involved in the plot at all. I’d definitely love to see a modern remake of this game even if it’s unreasonable with Crystal being the primary anime version right now. : "We should first return Shingo to his rightful place.": "Okay. And then we have to do something about Apsu. I hope Chibi-Moon is okay."Ooof. You’re right to worry about Chibi-Usa, because well... (Continued in part 2)

| Chapter #13-2 - Twisted Fate II ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spoiler:
[Current OST: Crystal Tokyo]"I wonder if she's well." … Oh yeah I keep forgetting that Chibi-Usa is from the future. How long has it been since she’s seen Neo Queen Serenity (aka. Future Usagi)? In fact, how does time travel really work? Does a second passing in the present count as a second passing in the future? All these hard questions and more that will never get answered. Okay wow, we are not looking good, folks. Neptune is severely under-leveled while the rest of the team is just barely equipped to deal with the new enemies here. Thank god Pluto is here otherwise this would be unplayable. Name: Chargama HP: 7000 Attack: 105 Defense: 50 Speed: 75 EXP: 6900 Yen: 1500 Item Drop: Life Water (Revives with 200 HP) Monster Type: Daimon Based off of: Chagama* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon S, Episode 15 Name: U-Henshu HP: 7500 Attack: 105 Defense: 47 Speed: 72 EXP: 6300 Yen: 1500 Item Drop: Cologne (Full MP restore to everyone in the party) Monster Type: Daimon Based off of: U-Henshu* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon S, Episode 24 Yeah, for some reason, the final set of enemies in the game are all Daimons. Appropriate considering this game takes place right after the end of S. The enemies here are Chagama and U-Henshu - Chagama is the japanese term for tea kettle, and the Daimon herself even attacks with acid tea. Why is this one of the last generic enemies you'll encounter in the game? Beats me, but it's pretty clever how her drop item is "Life Water". U-Henshu on the other hand is a pun on the japanese word for editing. Given how her attacks revolve around throwing razor-sharp book pages and trapping people inside books, it's safe to say she's a jab at manga editors. You gotta admit, the guys behind the anime had a fair amount of creativity. I have to use Time Stop or they'll massacre the team though. The Fragrance is for the extra kill power in case we're not able to eliminate them in three turns... we repeat this process every random battle until we're properly strong enough, minus the Fragrance bit every now and then because those are valuable. Uranus is also the only offensive member of the Outers, because the others do scratch damage. If she goes down, we have to waste a lot of time bringing her back. If only Neptune had an all-enemies debuff like how Shabon Spray lowers attack, but no: Submarine Reflection is just mediocre. That EXP and the reward is really good though, all things considered. Name: Dharma HP: 6300 Attack: 107 Defense: 52 Speed: 70 EXP: 6200 Yen: 1000 Item Drop: Bentou Set (Full HP restore to everyone in the party) Monster Type: Daimon Based off of: Daruma* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon S, Episode 16 The last of the new monsters is Daruma, a Daimon based off these funky little dolls that are designed after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. (This is also where Darmanitan's Zen Mode comes from, by the way) The deal with them is that you fill in one eye when you have a goal to do and you fill in the second when you actually complete it. I like the Daimon herself because she has a big honking paintbrush as a weapon, as for one special tidbit. She's one of those extremely rare monsters to be killed by someone other than Sailor Moon in the anime! Not only was it not Sailor Moon, it wasn't some mysterious outlier character like Uranus and Neptune (at the time) either; it was Jupiter of all people. She went above and beyond her role as a support fighter and took out the monster herself for once. I would have loved to see more that in the show itself, because... damn. Ooough, that full-party Stone Barrier isn't pretty. Good thing it has terrible accuracy otherwise it would be horrifying. A few fights later and we're doing much better, although Pluto being Stoned is super unfortunate. Having pork chops is a really good idea by this point of the game, just saying. Here's the ultimate combination attack between all three Outer and my god does Dead World Submerge sound like such a badass name. Too bad only Uranus can make use of it due to her monstrous attack stat. Left: Uranus Right: Everyone else You can see why her going down in a fight would be a problem, yeah? : "That voice... you're Anshar! What do you mean?": "If you enter, then we will have to fight.": "I don’t want to! Let me see mom!": "Please, listen to me. I don’t want to fight you! Please...": "Anshar..."Chibi’s scenario immediately starts off tense with this warning, cause while Shingo is saved… yeah, this won’t end pretty. Wait a minute, what? We're just now fighting the Witches 5? Yeah, the penultimate opponents and the ones who own all these Daimons across Crystal Tokyo are them of all people. Why are they so much stronger than Kaolinite and Mistress 9? ... Gameplay reasons obviously, but at the same time this is just weird. The thing with the Witches 5 is that they guard the five crystal points across Tokyo (these giant gems) and will immediately fight you when you approach them. Hope you trained up Chibi's team otherwise you're kinda fucked, since they don't give you a warning before throwing you into inescapable boss fights. Name: Eudial HP: 25000 Attack: 169 Defense: 58 Speed: 136 EXP: 28356 Yen: 5000 Item Drop: Nigiri (Cures 300 HP) Allegiance: Death Busters Official Art: Manga / Anime* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon Super, episode 16 / Act 27 - Infinity 1, Premonition (Named after eudialyte, a rare red-colored silicate mineral) This lovely lady is Eudial, the first of the Witches introduced in the anime after Kaolinite is defeated the first time. Her modus operandi is that instead of just summoning Daimons that take Pure Hearts, she shoots people with a soul-stealing bazooka. Can you imagine how terrifying that would be in other contexts? Honestly she's the second best looking of the group and the closest in terms of caliming her victory, as she mortally wounds both Neptune and Uranus and gets the Talismans from them. ... Her death was pretty messed up, though. After the Senshi defeat her, the car she makes a getaway in has its brakes jammed with snails by another one of the Witches... forcing her to drive off a cliff and die. It's not "melting skeleton faces" tier from the manga but that's still pretty brutal for a kid's show. Her primary weapon of choice is a god damn FLAMETHROWER that is somehow powerful enough Sailor Moon's Spiral Heart Attack, so I'm not surprised that it's able to one-shot Uranus. Her flamethrower can engulf the entire team, so you better be careful. The only thing keeping her from being super difficult is Sonic Wave...? For some reason? It is nice that they throw in a useless attack from time to time to prevent these bosses from being overpowered, though. Once you defeat one of them, they disappear and that's the last we see of them. It might be important to note that in the manga and Crystal, the Witches 5 are perfected Daimons who have managed to sustain human forms while in the 90's anime it's never stated if they're humans or not. Name: Tellu HP: 28000 Attack: 168 Defense: 62 Speed: 140 EXP: 29543 Yen: 9000 Item Drop: Fragrance (Boosts attack for everyone in the party for one battle) Allegiance: Death Busters Official Art: Manga / Anime / Disguise* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon Super, episode 31 / Act 27 - Infinity 1, Premonition (Her name is derived from tellurite, a rare oxide mineral) Tellu is actually the third Witch introduced, coming after Eudial's replacement. She had her own disguise (Lulu Teruno, owner of a botanical garden and gym teacher at Infinity Academy), and had a different method of gaining Pure Hearts from her predecessors. Yeah, after the second Witch gets axed, they decide to stop wasting resources creating Daimons if the Sailor Senshi are just going to keep nuke them out of existence. Tellu's answer? She has a special set of plants that just drain Pure Hearts out of anybody who gets near them, ironically doing a much better job than a single Daimon ever could. However, it didn't last and she was killed by her own flower when it thought she had a Pure Heart too. Whoops.I don't remember her special attacks, so I'll just assume she uses Whirlwind Cut or Fascination. That five thousand damage from out heavy hitter is looking super delicious though. A bit too late for that though, hun. Thanks for the Fragrance though. (Ha get it, cause flowers release sweet aromas.) : "We'll defeat you!"Hoo boy, these two. This is the hardest Witch fight for a multitude of reasons. Name: Cyprine & Puchirol HP: 25765 (C) + 27000 (P) = 52,765( !!) in total Attack: 171 for both Defense: 60 for both Speed: 142 for both EXP: 25000 for both Yen: 8000 Item Drop: Fragrance (Boosts attack for everyone in the party for one battle) & Moon Shard (Cures 120 HP) Allegiance: Death Busters Official Art: Manga (both) / Anime (both)* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon Super, episode 34 (both) / Act 27 - Infinity 1, Premonition (Cyprine) / Act 32 - Infinity 6, Three Guardians (Ptilol) (Cyprine is a silicate mineral with a blue color while Ptilol is derived from an alternate name for mordenite) Cyprine and Ptilol are the last members of the Witches 5 encountered and are actually twins who share the same body when they're not in combat. Technically this means the group should actually be called the Witches 7 but they don't count Kaolinite or Ptilol for some odd reason. Ptilol makes sense because she's just an extension of Cyprine, but Kaolinite's just weird. I really like their designs though, mostly because I'm a sucker for symmetrical red and blue characters. It's kind of the same reason why Twinrova is one of the coolest bosses in Zelda to me. Other than that, there's not much to say about the twins. They kick things off with Illusion and honestly it's one of the worst things they can throw at you. Losing turns is something you really don't want in late-game boss fights, especially if one of the people they get is Pluto. No, they can't force her to use Time Stop on us but not being able to use it on them is just as bad. Meanwhile, never attack with Chibi Moon because her speed would be much better utilized healing everyone. This does like 5 damage at best. ... As opposed to Uranus hitting like bullet train. She may be the only offensive unit of the Outers but damn if she doesn't do a fantastic job. (Even in the back row Chibi still manages to take 201 damage. Can someone remind me why we have a literal child as a sailor soldier again?) Thank god they missed Uranus though, because well... Easy money. : "Our fates would change..."Ha! Fat chance. It's especially hilarious when you realize that out of all the villains Usagi encounters, the Witches 5 are never redeemed in any way. Name: Mimett HP: 20543 Attack: 161 Defense: 65 Speed: 138 EXP: 28087 Yen: 8000 Item Drop: White Rose (Permanently raises defense by 10) Allegiance: Death Busters Official Art: Manga / Anime* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon Super, episode 20 / Act 27 - Infinity 1, Premonition (Her name comes from mimetite, a yellow-orange mineral) Mimete is the second Witch encountered and Eudial's successor after she caused her car to crash. Despite her methods, she's actually the funniest son of a bitch out of the five girls and honestly kind of a ditz all things considered. There's the infamous Twister scene that I unfortunately can't grab a hold of on Youtube, and the fact she wanted to ditch the Death Busters to get rich and famous after a while. Her death was also messed up, likely due to karma. She went inside of a TV to amplify her powers as a trump card against Sailor Moon and pals, only for Tellu to pull the plug and kill her onscreen (literally). Man, this group was not very stable if they just keep killing each other, huh? I bet to Mimete the fight started and just ended without even knowing what happened, especially since my own characters haven't even lost HP. A Pluto with unlimited Time Stop would be an unstoppable goddess, just think about it. Her drop item is the intensely valuable White Rose that increases defense by ten, so you know I'm giving it to Uranus just so she can survive a bit more. Name: Viluy HP: 27460 Attack: 170 Defense: 60 Speed: 140 EXP: 28553 Yen: 7520 Item Drop: Bentou Set (Full HP restore to the entire party) Allegiance: Death Busters Official Art: Manga / Anime / Civilian* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon Super, episode 33 / Act 27 - Infinity 1, Premonition (Named after viluite, another silicate mineral) Viluy is the fourth Witch encountered and is effectively the Mercury parallel due to her amazing talent for technology. She's the leader of the science class and made friggin' nanobots of all things, so I'm just holding myself back from making a Metal Gear reference. They also unfortunately led to her downfall, because when Sailor Moon used her super attack it damaged the bracelet that controlled the bots, forcing them to turn on their user. Viluy's death is so gruesome that I'm surprised they got away with it, because her nanobots disintegrated her down to the particles. God damn that's metal for a kid's anime. One admittedly lackluster fight later and that clears up all the Witches, albeit in an admittedly messy order. The Crystal Palace should be open now upon their defeat, but something tells me to look around for a bit. For you see, Crystal Tokyo actually does have shops! I... actually did not know this the first time playing around, the buildings around the area didn't really scream "enterable". I can imagine this being useful once we need to restock. It's a good time to mention that there's actually quite a few buildings in between all the random battles. The NPCs take notice of the Witches 5 perching themselves on the Crystal Points and preventing entry into the Crystal Palace. One truly unfortunate piece of flavor text is that even though the people here are "immortal" aka. unable to die from old age, they can still get sick. Let's just hope this doesn't apply to genetic diseases or that Usagi can cure the really bad ones people can catch, because that's... [Current OST: Crystal Tokyo Palace]This is hands down my favorite song in the entire game. It's so soothing yet it embodies "final area" at the same time, it's just fantastic. It even gets me nostalgic when I stop playing the game, so let that speak for itself. "Don’t come any closer, I’ll have to fight you if you do."It’s gonna happen but honestly I don’t want to beat up Anshar. He’s been a cool guy this entire game, and he’s gone through enough as it is. "But while you’re a princess, I can’t get any closer to you.""Then we wouldn’t have had to fight like this..."He’s compelled to chase his destiny, even if it means fighting the girl of his dreams. Anshar is practically pleading for us to not come closer, but screw it we’re doing it anyway. : "Don’t come, Lady! Don’t come any closer! I don’t want to fight you! Don’t come..."[Apsu appears behind Anshar][Current OST: Apsu's theme]: "I’m not going to fight Lady!": "Anshar. You’re still saying things like that!?": "Shut up! If I have to fight Lady… Then, I’ll die!": "That is an act of treason. Take this!"[Apsu disappears and envelops Anshar in a pillar of darkness]: "Aaaaaah! L... Lady... I don’t want to fight you... Gaaaahhh!"[He collapses]: "Anshar!"[He steps back up]: "You... all of you... Kill!": "He’s being controlled by evil energy! Watch out, Chibi-Moon!": "Anshar!"That’s super messed up, jesus. Combine this with the amount of pain-staking effort Sin went through to keep her brother safe and it just gets worse. You see what I told you when I said this woman was pure evil?! [Current OST: Normal Battle Theme]Name: Anshar HP: 35000 Attack: 115 Defense: 75 Speed: 120 EXP: 55432 Yen: 50000 Item Drop: Nothing Allegiance: Opposito Senshi Official Art: [url=https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/sailormoonunlimited/imageproxy.php?url=https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Monfriez/Oppositio Senshi/anshar.jpg]Here[/url] * If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A Oh man, we're really doing this, huh. ... Why does he get the normal battle theme though? Are they implying he's not strong enough to get the boss theme or even the Opposito battle theme? Man, this kid will never stop getting the short end of the stick. He's far weaker than the Witches and his sister's group, but I gear up anyway to end his suffering more quickly. Chibi, I appreciate the effort but... Maybe let the big girls handle this one. That's an amazing amount of experience but not a single point feels good. Why couldn't we have beat up Apsu instead? "Are you alright...?": "Anshar! I’m sorry!"She’s said his name for her past five lines, come on. : "Sorry... I was such a pain… I’ve always admired you. [huff] But I’m only a normal person, and you are a princess... There was no way we could be with each other, but I never gave up... I’ve thought so many times of taking you. But that thought has only brought Apsu to me... I... I didn’t want this kind of fate. Ugh..."So not only were his parents killed by the Black Moon, he was consumed by his lust of the princess to the point where it ruined him. That… that’s rough. Poor guy. : "Hey! Hang in there!""Apsu’s weakness is the Silver Crystal... She’s now at the tower of time, changing the fates... ugh... I..."Kinda ironic considering how she wanted it to cure her own cancer and take over the cosmos, but thems the breaks of being a bad guy. : "... Anshar? Don’t die! Could this be... Anshar..."(I’d be more surprised if he survived what we threw at him, just saying) : "Chibi-Moon...": "Damn it!! Why... How can we possibly forgive this!? Apsu!"Well said, hot damn. : "It is too early to be saddened... Small Lady, we still have time.": "With your Silver Crystal, that boy can be revived. You must believe in yourself, Small Lady.": "Puu... Okay, I’ll do it!"Kinda kills the tension of all she had to do was believe, but alright whatever. : "Moon Prism Power!"[A red pillar of light envelops Anshar’s body]: "How is it, Pluto?": "Hmmm. Everything is okay, he’s just out cold now."Oh good. I'm pretty sure winning Sin back would have become impossible if her brother died too. : "It’s Apsu, right?": "That’s right. It’s time to defeat Apsu, and bring back the correct fates.": "Right. In order not to make anyone else saddened…": "Let’s go! Time to settle this, Apsu!": "Anshar... wait for me. I’ll restore your fate."[Cut to black]: "Sailor Moon, there’s something going on more important than that.": "What’s wrong?": "Apsu is up in the Tower of Time trying to change fate!"[All of the Senshi are shocked]: "Changing fate?": "We can’t waste time standing around then.": "Let’s hurry!": "Wait. Everyone can’t head to the Tower of Time."Basically, we have arrange a group for Sailor Moon to defeat Apsu once and for all while the remaining members go back into the present to return Shingo. Chibi is not available, but I don’t think she’s all that useful beyond her speed anyway. I've arranged a team of the most powerful attackers (and Mercury) so we can potentially kill-dozer Apsu without much resistance. Sure it's reckless but I'm kinda determined to not use Time Stop unless it's absolutely necessary and I can't worm out of it. : "Don’t lose to Apsu!": "Of course! For him? In the name of the moon, I’ll punish her!": "Good luck, Sailor Moon!"Aaaah, she said it again! I can’t tell if she’s referring to Anshar or Mamoru, but I like to imagine it’s the former because of what just happened. (Speaking of which, where is that goober anyway?) [Chibi's team walks offscreen]Well that was an exciting chapter and all but we’ve got a hefty finale waiting for us. There’s quite a lot to swallow next time, maybe even some time travel shenanigans, but I’m not able to tell. See you guys then! -------------------------------------------------------------- A Team: (Sailor Moon, level 45, , Inner Senshi) - "Apsu, I don't know what your goal is but you've done enough! For Anshar and all the others you hurt... I can't forgive you." (Sailor Venus, level 45, , Inner Senshi) - "I'm glad we solved the problem with the other Opposito, even if Ishtar still makes me a bit uneasy." (Sailor Uranus, level 47, , Outer Senshi) - "Usagi, we're right there with you if you get in trouble. This entire incident has my blood boiling, so let's go and get it done." (Sailor Mercury, level 45, , Inner Senshi) - "Wait, where's Mamoru? Wasn't he supposed to be dealing with Fiore?" (Sailor Mars, level 45, , Inner Senshi) - "... Hmmm, you're right. Either way, I'm sensing tremendous dark energy up there. Something tells me this might be the final battle, so let's be careful!"- B Team: (Sailor Chibi-Moon, level 48, , Inner Senshi) - "How could someone do this, especially to such a sweet person like Anshar?" (Sailor Jupiter, level 45, , Inner Senshi) - "Well, Chibi-Usa, some people... just aren't good people. It's not even because they're born evil either. There's a lot that can go into it, like lack of empathy or a bad life growing up. With all the villains we've fought I've always wondered what goes on in their heads, so..." (Sailor Neptune, level 47, , Outer Senshi) - "He sure is lucky to have you care about him, though, tee hee." (Sailor Pluto, level 47, , Outer Senshi) - "Small Lady, don't be nervous. He will be alright. Now, if only the same could be said about his sister..." (Sailor Saturn, level 48, , Outer Senshi) - "All that talk about you being a princess being the reason why you two couldn't be together and why he tried so hard... it was heartbreaking. I can't help but feel there was a different path for him that didn't need to end up like this."-~Fun Sailor Moon Fact~: Oh yeah, got a twofer for this one. In the anime, all of the main villains are separate threats with their own unique agendas and origins. In the manga, however, they're all incarnations of Chaos, a primordial evil with no definite form. Chaos is basically the ultimate big bad of the series, with each new main villain being a stronger version of the last. Also, have this picture of Minako disguised as Sailor Moon to fool Kaolinite because mimicking Sailor Moon just seems to be a thing in the show.

| Moved into our new house, made it liveable and defeated every superboss in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. *cracks knuckles* Let's do this. Chapter #14-1 - Destiny's Eclipse I (Finale) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spoiler:
Last time on Sailor Moon: Another Story, we dispelled the threats from Crystal Tokyo and purified all but one of the Opposito Senshi. Now we're going to hunt down Apsu and put an end to her schemes! (About time, too.) : "Where is Tuxedo Kamen? He was fighting here a while ago.": "This rose petal trail… It’s heading towards the Time Gate.": "We have to go, no matter what."That boy better not have died on me otherwise I’mma get pissed. We spent what, like five chapters trying to bring him out of a coma? : "... The Tower of Time!? Didn’t it sink when we saved Pluto!?": "Well..."That... wait, yeah it totally did. What’s this about? "A new tower is there…": "Hahaha... How do you like the new Tower of Time? If you want Tuxedo Kamen back, enter… If you have that kind of courage! Hahahaha..."Woman don’t tempt me, I’ve done crazy shit like this in the past. : "What are you going to do?"Yes we’ll quit and leave Tuxedo Mask in the timeless abyss because he’s always giving us too much trouble – no, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO SAY, LUNA!?: "I’m going in."See, Usagi knows what’s up. I should mention that the enemy encounters here have not changed since our first visit to the Space-Time Door (barring one exception) so if you haven't done much grinding before reaching this point then I pity you. At least you have a second chance to get the chests here, hence why I wasn't freaking out over missable stuff here earlier. : "Sailor Moon... Sorry... after defeating Fiore, I was captured."Holy shit he actually beat Fiore? That’s much better than what I was expecting if I really have to be honest. Have you seen his track record up to now? Dude has never actually won against someone in the anime, he’s usually just a distraction and that’s it. : "Can’t we escape?": "This could be difficult. Apsu’s mental energy is being used as a lock.": "Then we have to beat Apsu first?": "It appears that way."Shouldn’t be that difficult. I mean the only person left on her team is Sin and she doesn’t even have the other villain forces to back her up anymore, so... easy clap. "Right now we can’t seem to free you.": "What are you saying? Don’t worry about me. Concentrate on defeating Apsu."They more or less repeat themselves for a bit before saying that if we lose, at least we’ll die together. : "When you defeat Apsu, everything will be fine. Don’t give up, Sailor Moon."Then the music changes to the Let's Go theme for the rest of the Tower of Time, so at least it’s a bit more heroic than the creepy-ass normal theme for this place. (Special note: You are not completely screwed if you need to train a bit more before fighting Apsu. This room has Combater As with incredible amounts of EXP, but you do need to be careful not to trigger the cutscene where Apsu is.) [Current OST: Apsu]"The one who tries to twist my fate to destruction.": "You’re also playing with peoples’ fates! In the name of the moon… I will punish you!"Oh man she’s on a roll with the “I will punish you” thing. Also wow Apsu, you really tried to pull the guilt card with all the crap you’ve done already? I’ve never seen a Sailor Moon villain with such a punchable face before. : "Hahaha... Sorry, Sailor Moon."[A circle of light appears beneath the Senshi]"The Silver Crystal is my ward. Silver Crystal! Show us the new fate!"[The screen pixellates out]What the hell are you doing? : "I got a bad grade again. Mom will scold me now. I hate tests!"I just find it hilarious that she can annihilate eldritch abominations beyond the comprehension of man and beat up demonic aliens like it’s nothing… yet she gets like 30s on her math tests. Can’t win ‘em all, I suppose. : "That’s a bad grade.": "What are YOU looking at?": "Go study more, odango head.": [Sticks her tongue out at him]Was this meant to be a recreation of their meeting in the first episode or something? Cause I kinda don’t see the point of this illusion. "Sailor Moon’s fate should have changed."Oh it wasn’t an illusion, it was Apsu trying to warp space and time to change Usagi’s destiny. That… okay that’s way more horrifying. : "Apsu… You don’t understand your biggest mistake. Fate is what peoples’ hearts create… I didn’t love Mamo-chan because of fate. No matter how much you change it, I’ll never give up Mamo-chan!"Why can I imagine this line being highlighted in a modern remake trailer for this game? It just seems perfect for that. : "I see… But it seems as though you’re the only one that thinks that.": "Sorry... I... I couldn’t believe in the Silver Crystal. If I fight like this, I’ll fall behind in my studies and I won’t be able to become a doctor anymore..."( Mercury kinda has a point though.) : "I don’t understand why we’re fighting. I wanted to live a peaceful life and fall in love like a normal person…": "If fate has changed, then we can just follow that new fate. I mean, if that would make us happy..."Oh come the fuck on. You’ve made it this far yet now you’re going to stop before we even make it to the finish line? Guys, please.(I’ve just noticed that Uranus has not said anything. Maybe this is an Inner Senshi thing and that Jupiter was supposed to speak up, but we didn’t bring her, so whoops.) : "What are you saying!? All the hardships in our lives… We worked hard to solve them and create happy endings! Changing fate... and even throwing all our effort out the door… no! We’ve got to do our best! I don’t want to see you all give up!"Said like a true leader. "I was afraid…": "I didn’t think Sailor Moon would give a speech like that... I’m fine now.": "I was fooled by the words of fate… I’ll do it, Sailor Moon!"Whiplash, much? They sure got talked back in real quick, given all the illusions they suffered before this. Usagi sure has a way with words. : "Everyone...": "Is that so? Then, in order for me not to die… I’ll just have to kill you to achieve it!"I’d like to see you try! [Current OST: Opposito Senshi Boss Theme]Name: Apsu HP: 72000 Attack: 177 Defense: 90 Speed: 140 EXP: 4464 Yen: 18928 Item Drop: N/A Allegiance: Hell Destiny aka. Opposito Senshi Official Art: Here* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A God damn she's strong. No wonder why she was the leader of the Opposito this entire time! Apsu, otherwise known as Abzu, a primeval Mesopotamian deity that also shares their name with a river. I'm not quite sure what the correlation is barring a vague "river = the flow of time" thing, but you got me. I'm not sure if I've said this before, but I really dig Apsu's look. She's pretty unique visually and personality wise among the Sailor Moon big bads, especially given what her ultimate plan is. (Yeah, aside from the "conquer everything" racket, but who knows what she was like before she was corrupted by darkness? I hold the theory that she's a breast cancer victim that tapped into taboo magic to fix her situation and it just went kinda FUBAR.) Side note, I really love how they gave her the Opposito theme instead of the regular boss theme. Nice touch. I am positive the devs threw Toxic Mist in as a breather attack, because... Yeah, that's just her normal attack. God help you if you are not prepared. Hell Attack is pretty terrifying, but apparently she has her own unique attack called Black Sun. Her forehead accessory makes sense now, even if it was already cool. Pretty funny how Moon and Mercury take barely any damage, though. That's how borked the damage scaling is if you're in the back row. As long as you have a large enough stock of healing items and use Mercury's Shabon Spray to lower Apsu's attack, this shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Grinding immediately before the boss would also be super beneficial, but I've already done more than my fair share. ... Surprisingly little EXP for that fight, though. Those numbers don't inspire confidence, either... (ohdear) Huh? Apsu’s just gone? Not even a final word? Strange… : "Shingo is home now.": "We’re done too."[The screen starts to shake]: "What is this shaking!?": "The fates which have been changed are moving back."Oh god, it’s a timequake! We’d better move if we don’t want to get erased from reality or something! (eyes) : "This place will be dangerous. Let’s get out of here!": "We defeated Apsu!": "Good job! Now let’s get out!"Ain’t no thang. [The tower crumbles into the endless abyss]Is the Tower of Time meant to be a distortion or something? I don't really know, given how we don't really see the inside of the Space Time Door in the anime or manga. : "Now everything is over.": "No, we still have to purify the comet."Oh right the comet from the game’s intro! Shit, I completely forgot it existed. : "But how do we do that?": "If you put all of your powers into the Silver Crystal, it might purify the comet.": "Then let’s do it."This thing always seems to be the answer in a pinch, I swear... : "But when will the comet arrive?": "By my calculations, two hours from now in the future."What kind of computer is Mercury using that she’s able to calculate time inside of the void? [Current OST: Title Screen Theme]: "Let’s do it!"The girls recite their transformation phrases and… [A teal sphere of light exudes from the team][The light pierces out from the Crystal Palace into the sky]Huh. Wasn't this part of Apsu's master plan or something? We just kinda ruined everything she had planned, even if I don't know quite what the comet was going to be used for. : "Right... hmmm!? The Crystal Palace isn't returning to normal!": "Is there something we missed!?"Of course we did. : "Tuxedo Kamen, wait here.": "That’s right. We wouldn’t always want to rely on you."[Canned laughter from Sailor Moon fans plays in the distance]Did you guys hear something? Either way, it’s interesting to note that in the manga at least, Tuxedo Mask was actually able to take down some bad guys. : "Leave it to us.": "Everyone..."Sit back and relax while the big girls do this, mate. You’ve earned a rest. "Why… How can I be beaten? I don’t want to die… Somebody… somebody, give me strength!"This is especially noteworthy because every other Sailor Moon big bad is usually far stronger than the main team to the point where they don’t really falter, yet Apsu gets curbstomped so badly that she’s actually pleading for someone to help her. I’m really digging the direction they want with the Opposito and Apsu, just sayin’. [Sin appears over the void]"I’ll give you my strength. Let’s start a new fate... if you live, Anshar and I can live in peace!"[Sin and Apsu merge together]Hoo boy this is not going to end well. "What is that evil energy?": "I felt it too!!": "I have sensed it also. This evil energy… it’s surrounding the Crystal Palace.": "At this rate, the people inside the palace will be taken over. They’ll be poisoned by the evil.": "They could even all die...": "Huh!? Mom and dad will die? I don’t want that!"That’s pretty messed up. : "If Queen Serenity and King Endymion die... The world held up by the Silver Crystal will become a land of chaos. We’ll have to finish it off ourselves."Gotta admit I love stories that give you reasons why only the playable characters can delve into the depths of the enemy territory, so this is pretty rad. ... That said, how are Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion in danger? Aren’t they supposed to be Future Usagi and Mamoru? Wow, settling down and establishing a kingdom must have dulled their combat skills something fierce. : "But, with this much dark energy...": "Then… Apsu could still be alive."It was kinda obvious. They realize that Sin is still alive too, and head off towards the basement thanks to Mercury’s supercomputer. (There’s nothing important in the two chests we’ve seen this entire cutscene.) Yellow crystals... oof, if this entire setting and the beautiful music does not scream final boss prep room then I don't know what does. : "Right, it’s this room here.": "But compared to before, it’s much stronger and more evil.": "You have to put a stop to this evil energy. Otherwise, the palace… no, the entire Earth will fall into chaos."Why do I get a bad feeling from this entire conversation? Ech, must be nothing. : "I know. I won’t lose to some evil energy! I’ll protect everyone… the entire Earth! Let’s move out, everyone!"Well said. : "But... Chibi-Moon, you stay behind.": "Why!? I can fight with you too!": "No!! What if everyone dies…? Who will then defend this Earth? Who will defend Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion?": "That’s why you’re staying, to defend your mom and dad."(Technically Neo Queen Serenity is you, Usagi? if you bite it, Chibi-Usa will not only not have a mother but she won’t, like… exist? This entire situation’s pretty screwed. Chibi's pretty brave for volunteering to fight, though.) : "Okay…": "Now, let’s decide who will fight, and who will defend."The final party arrangement... let's make this count! It's funny how Chibi-Moon doesn't get a use at all during the end of the game, but them's the breaks. We're ending this off in style with a full Inners team while Chibi gets all the Outers. Tuxedo Mask would have broken the balance in many ways, so sorry bud. Once we step through that door, it's go time. Important note: If you don't like the Senshi you brought along, talking to the Senshi other than Chibi-Moon will bring up the team arrangement menu again. The same thing will happen if you exit the Crystal Palace altogether. Let's also change up the formation for once to get some variety. I wonder how well this'll do? What the hell? Does Neo Queen Serenity have a back door into the Tower of Time? This is getting weird… : "But there seems to be nothing but darkness...?"[A transformed Apsu appears over the void]Whoa, what happened to your face?! : "Apsu! So it was you! … What’s with that body!?": "I have merged with Sin. I’ve become a little unsightly, but all this power! If I wanted, the palace could be reduced to dust instantly! But I’d like to kill you myself, just to be satisfied. And besides which… If I destroy the palace, finding the Silver Crystal would become such a hassle. I may as well tell you. The final change of fate will be done at the Crystal Palace.": "What are you talking about!?"Usagi says what everyone’s thinking because this woman’s insane. : "You won’t ever get the palace or the Silver Crystal! Changing the fates of innocent people… trying to destroy their happy lives… Why, I… I… In the name of the Moon… I shall punish you!"This is what, the fourth time she’s pulled it out? Doesn’t matter, cause this is still the most appropriate use of it. [Dread of Night]Wait, what? That's not the song that's meant to be playing! And why isn't the enemy bio showing up? Oh well, this entire battleground looks sick as hell. Demon Apsu also looks badass for a final boss with the colors and that dragon head, so I approve. Let's see what we can d- So uh. Remember what I said about a bad feeling earlier? This is what I meant. This is Fin de Siècle (french for "End of the Century"), the most powerful attack in the game bar none and it SHOWS. It was mistranslated to Fan Do Sheckle of all things, which has to be the most unfortunate butchering of an attack name I've seen yet. Wow, we really ballsed that one up, huh? It's almost as if I threw the fight on purpose...? Naw, I couldn't have. "At this rate, the world… Everyone…": "Hahahahaha!! I did it… I have defeated Sailor Moon! I can rule everything! The world! Even time itself! EVERYTHING!!! HA HA HA HA HA!!!"Okay to be serious for one second, Demon Apsu really is that damn strong. Defeating her is a definite accomplishment, so as a final boss she’s no joke. [Chibi-Moon runs in from behind]: "Hmmm!? You’re...": "A little early to be celebrating, isn’t it?": "Chibi-Moon…": "What do you want, runt?": "In place of Sailor Moon, I’ll defeat you.": "Hmph, crazy… Even Sailor Moon couldn’t defeat me! What can you possibly do?"She… she has a point. It doesn’t mitigate the awesome factor of Chibi-Moon stepping in to save the day from mortal peril, though, cause they totally could have just given us a game over and that’s it. "Bad guys like you… I’ll punish you! In the name of the future moon!!"She’s growing up so fast. [Not the actual final boss theme either: Vs. Metal Attacker]Name: Demon Apsu (Chibi Moon Version) HP: 80,000 Attack: 97 Defense: 15 Speed: 80 EXP: 0 Yen: 0 Item Drop: Nothing Allegiance: Hell Destiny, aka. Opposito Senshi Official Art: Here* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A So... yeah, there's actually two versions of the final boss based on if you die to the super difficult normal version. Chibi's is uber nerfed, to the point where this Apsu is no different from a trash mob monster barring her health. Chibi's Demon Apsu has one of lowest defense ratings for a boss yet, especially for this point in the game. It makes sense because the formation you use will get messed up due to it being outside of your control. (The attack she used was the same Fin de Siècle that wiped out Moon and the Inners. That's how far Apsu got knocked down stat-wise.) Yeah... there's no way you can lose this fight, and I'm pretty sure it's just a normal game over if Apsu somehow manages to wipe you out. : "That's for hurting Sailor Moon!!" A bit of a hollow victory with how easy it was, but we still got it done. [Current OST: Opposite Soldier]"I saved Mama and Papa!": "Gah... Even with your looks, you’re a Sailor Soldier. You did well… But! I will NOT fall here! Take this!"[Apsu releases a wave of dark energy, but Anshar appears in front of Chibi to absorb it]: "I’ll defend you with my life… Sis! You’re inside Apsu, right?! That isn’t the sis I remember!"How did them fusing together create this dragon head monster thing? Is it leftover residue from the comet? : "Hmm, your sister chose to become one with me.": "Don’t lie!": "It’s true, Anshar."[An image of Sin forms in front of him]: "Sis!": "I’m going to destroy everything that threatens you… this world protected by the Silver Crystal and the princess.": "Sis... when mother and father died, you protected me. I liked you better that way… The kind sister that I had, the one I liked... "Obsession drives people into madness. She loved her brother so much she lost sight of what was important. : "Hmph! You’re such a pest! I’ll grant your wish and kill you with the Princess!"[Something stops Apsu from attacking]: "What…? I can’t move!? It can’t be… Sin’s mind is controlling me! Gaaaah!!"You know what, it makes sense. If you can't control both minds in a fusion, you're pretty much useless. : "Now, Chibi-Moon! Use the Silver Crystal!": "Okay! Moon Prism Power!"[A pillar of purple light envelops Apsu]"My body is disappearing… Gwaaaaahhhh!"[Only Sin is left behind][Current OST: Sadness]: "Anshar! What’s wrong?": "Lady... this means goodbye.": "Now that Apsu is gone, the fates she changed will return to normal. So Anshar will too.": "Anshar, you’re going to die!?": "Lady, I’m not going to die... I’m just going to follow a fate without Apsu."[Both him and Sin vanish into the void]: "Anshar! Luna, Anshar is disappearing! Help him!": [Ellipses]She cries out his name one more time before the screen blacks out… [Current OST: Crystal Tokyo Palace]"I can’t see Anshar anymore…?": "That’s not entirely true.": "Really!?": "But…": "Anshar and Sin would have led different lives.": "Even if you do meet Anshar, he wouldn’t know you.": "He wouldn’t? Nonono! I don’t want that! Waaaah!!": "Chibi-Usa… It’s not like Anshar’s dead… you can start over again."The most reasonable comment comes from Usagi, surprisingly. : "And why not!?": "If Chibi-Usa and Anshar meet again, the gates of fate could open. Then, the Opposito Senshi will...": "No way!!": "So Apsu could return as well?"Oh, that's bull. : "No... this is too cruel..."You said it, holy crap. So if Chibi-Usa ever tries to strike up a relationship with Anshar, she could wind up undoing everything we’ve worked so hard for in this game. Cruel is right, jeez. Saturn says that the more time they spend away from this incident, the more possibility a time screw-up won’t happen, but… Pluto comes in to crush the small girl’s dreams by saying that “by the time it’s not a problem, it’ll be too late for you two to be together”. : "Nooo!! Anshar...": "Chibi-Usa..."[The screen pixellates out, cutting to Crystal Tokyo. Chibi and Anshar wind up bumping into each other]: "You alright?": "I’m fine..."[She looks at the boy][Current OST: Sadness]: "…! Anshar!": "Who are you? How do you know my name?": "Huh…? No, it’s nothing... sorry."[She sees the pendant Anshar dropped on the ground]: "Oh? This is…": "That pendant...?": "This? I don’t know where I got it, but I’ve had it for a while. When I have this, I feel so happy… It’s my special treasure!"[Sin runs in to see the situation]: "Anshar, are you okay?": "Yeah, I’m fine!": "Sorry, little girl. Are you okay?": "Yeah…": "Haven’t we… no, it’s just my imagination. Let’s go, Anshar."Close call, whoof. [The siblings go offscreen][Setsuna walks in from behind]: "Anshar...": "Small Lady...": "Puu… Is this right?": "Yes… He has been through a life without battles. If he meets us again, he may be taken into the fate of battle."Star crossed lovers at such a young age... sheesh. : "Okay…": "Small Lady…": "Let’s go, Puu!"[They walk towards the right side of the screen, with Setsuna being the only one out of frame]"I love you!"She’s just a kid! Come on, don’t do this to her! [Bell gong SFX]I'm kinda without words on what to say here, so I'll just say that I like this picture of the Crystal Palace. Yep, that's it! We defeated the final boss and the credits are rolling, so I think it's safe to say the game is over. In all seriousness though, you guys could have done a better job at translating the game because this is just nuts. It was a long time ago, but still. Ech. I'm not satisfied with that ending at all, given what happened to poor Chibi-Usa and the fact that we didn't really win in the grand scheme. The final boss was easier, but we got the bad ending as a punishment. So you know what? Let's turn back time and change the game's destiny ourselves![Click, kaboom SFX](continued in part 2)

| Part 2 of 2. Chapter #14-2 - Destiny's Eclipse II (Finale) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spoiler:
Whoo... I can't believe I pulled it off. Good thing I had those saves from a previous chapter, otherwise this would have been impossible. I'm gathering the rest of the puzzle pieces that we neglected to collect, since the Crystal Tokyo / Dark Castle monsters don't drop any. Yeah, for some reason... enemies just stop dropping puzzle pieces after a while, so if you're not even close to building the puzzle towards the end of the game then you're pretty screwed. Remember this passage in the snow village? It was originally the way to get to Nabu back in Mercury's solo chapter, but here... wait, WHOA. The asshole-o-meter exploded yet again! Man, I can't keep getting a new computer every time this happens! ... What the heck...? [The team walks forward, only to... get rushed by a dragon!?]Holy-! [Current OST:Boss Theme]Name: Dragon HP: 30976 Attack: 200 ( ?!?) Defense: 164 ( ?!?) Speed: 194 EXP: 4520 Yen: 10 Item Drop: Fragrance (Boosts attack of entire party one time) Allegiance: Black Moon Clan Official Art: Anime* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon R, episode 38 HOLY SHIT THOSE STATS Even the final boss doesn't have attack or defense that high! What the hell, man? Then hits you: this is the game's only optional superboss. Fascinating to say the least, but I feel nothing but sympathy for the poor saps who accidentally wander into here checking for new stuff. You're probably wondering though: a dragon in Sailor Moon? What kind of crazy plot does this thing come from and why are they listed under the human antagonist bio instead of the monster one? When did the Black Moon have a dragon!? Aren't they like, space invaders with magic crystal androids? It'll all make sense in a bit, trust me. I'm ultra-buffing the entire team to deal with this guy because they are extremely vicious. I'm not holding anything back here because the Dragon will destroy you with their sky-high 200 attack. My strategy for this fight was to Time Stop, buff and heal if they were able to escape from the stunlock. I'm pretty sure the Final Boss is even stronger with Fin De Siecle... but this is encountered during an earlier part of the game. If you plan on fighting the Dragon I suggest heavy preparation combined with drowning them in cheese. Moon finishes it off in style and nets us a Fragrance for our troubles. Oh okay, the Dragon was really this green-haired lady the entire time. Makes sense. : "I've really been beaten this time. It wasn't a dragon, it was me, Esmeraude-sama! Well, let's try it out one more time!"Interesting... did us beating her up dispel her dragon form? That's pretty funky, but if it was a curse then of course we could turn her back to normal. For context, this boss is only available during the section where you can pilot the Ark, but before the Dark Kingdom invasion of the Moon. We're that far back, buckos. : "Rose Crystal? Hohoho... Bad luck, the Rose Crystal is in the possession of Diamond. Regrettable? If that's so... I shall kill you! "[She takes a pause and observes our team]: "Huh? The last time I fought the Sailor Senshi, there weren't quite as many of them. Well, it seems they've gained quite a few... Let's settle this. Die!"Name: Esmeraude HP: 30743 Attack: 200 Defense: 168 Speed: 194 EXP: 5550 Yen: 5600 Item Drop: Red Pupil (Equipment item that drastically increases speed and attack) Allegiance: Black Moon Clan Official Art: Manga / Anime* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon R, episode 27 / Act 15 - Infiltration, Sailor Mars I'm surprised Esmeraude even appeared in this game at all, given how her fate was to be cursed into that dragon form by the Wiseman. Anyway, the 90s dub fans might remember her as that lady who does the Noblewoman's Laugh a bit too much for her own good but honestly I remember her more as the lady who gave Rubeus a sick burn. So, Rubeus tried to take all the Senshi down with him by blowing up his ship. Esmerade comes around in her own ship, appearing to be his savior due to them also being Black Moon Clan. Well, she straight up tells him "nah" and leaves him to die on his burning ship with no way out. That's stone cold and I love it. ( Plus it helps that she's actually kind of attractive but don't mind me) Esmeraude is no joke either, because she's just as tough and fast as her dragon form but has 4 more defense. The fact we're doing this much damage with the Fragrance boost is kind of a miracle. As you can see, she does nearly double Mars's health in one attack. A two-phase superboss with higher stats than the final boss? Man, it's a good thing that Red Pupil is really worth it cause good god. Spamming Venus Wink Sword and Mars Fire Snake with a healthy amount of Time Stop was the best way to do this fight, honestly. It's the safest way, especially since Esmeraude can hit everyone with Whirlwind Cut. Excellent work, team. [Esmeraude vanishes]She sure put up a fight, but I'm afraid it wasn't enough to count. : "So there are threads of Destiny that never meet. Such a sad love..."Why did Prince Diamond even want Usagi when he has someone like Esmeraude on his team? Like come on, dude. I can feel the power!! Two Red Pupils is just cheating, and that's not even all the cool super-equipment we're getting! Oh what are you laughing about, Beryl? You're gonna lose no matter what timeline you appear in. Mimete you couldn't even beat Twister, how could you possibly stand a chance against us? (By the way, the time between these screenshots are hours apart. If the timestamps are correct, I started making this chapter around 6:00 PM and finished retreading plot/grinding two hours later at 8:34 PM. It was pretty draining if I have to be honest, but well worth the effort.) Th... there's a pink merchant man in the Crystal Palace. I gotta admit I like the shade he chose, but what's this guy's story? Is this Neo Queen Serenity's royal treasurer? Oh, so this is what the puzzle is used for... in an area right before the final boss. You know what, it's the best place it could have been put at. If you haven't collected all the pieces, then this room is useless to you. But for us though... He gets super happy and congratulates us with ten Angel Hairpins, the final equipment pieces for all of the Senshi that aren't Red Pupils. In fact, let's see how the puzzle looks now that it's finished. Oh my god, it actually looks really good. Even without the angel hairpin reward it was well worth it to complete this puzzle. I'm keeping this as a commemoration piece for completing the let's play. There's enough to go around for every party member, and the boost they give to every stat is pretty substantial. Here's what it looks like when you try to leave the Crystal Palace to do some more grinding, so at least you get the chance to train up who you're going to bring. I might also take this time to show off some special attacks. Here's Sailor Shoot Attack. It's technically the weakest of the five-person group attacks, but I like how each formation has a unique special move. Here's Sailor Arrow Attack. An image of Princess Serenity appears and shoots a nuke arrow at the entire enemy party. It doesn't do much, but damn it looks cool. Sailor Victory Attack is just an explosion, but damn if that damage isn't attractive. It's not even the strongest one! [Current OST: Final Battle Theme]Name: Demon Apsu (True Version) HP: 120,000 Attack: 187 Defense: 100 Speed: 148 EXP: 0 Yen: 0 Item Drop: Nothing Allegiance: Hell Destiny, aka. Opposito Senshi Official Art: Here* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: N/A No more messing around, we're doing this fight for real. Demon Apsu is an amazingly fearsome final boss, even to the point where even though Esmeraude has higher base stats, Apsu has more powerful attacks. I chose a full Inners team because cheesing Apsu out with Time Stop would be boring. Plus, having all the Inners just feels right to me. Hell Attack from True Demon Apsu packs a wallop, so have your frontline fighters defend at all costs while your back row buffs up. Shabon Spray and Healing Shower make a good combination, but it's just a shame you can only buff/debuff one time. The game doesn't play fair, why should you? These are the kinds of numbers I like to see. If we didn't have the angel pins or the extra Red Pupil, we would have been grinding for a lot longer and I don't like that, no sir. N... no, not yet. I really want to, but I don't think Demon Apsu is even close to dead yet and there's a damage cap of 9999. Better to save it for later. This gif is the perfect play-by-play explanation for how turns kept going until the big finale. Mars would often get very close to dying, but Mercury's Toilette would undo the damage Apsu did while also rejuvenating our MP. We had a lot of them, so I wasn't afraid of running out any time soon. Let's finish this. [The team charges up for a Sailor Planet Attack]You're done! Game over, Apsu! [Current OST: Sadness]"I am defeated… But I’ll just return again and toy once more with your fates…"Man, just stand down already. You really can’t recover from that one. : "Quick, Sailor Moon, the Silver Crystal! Destroy Apsu with the Silver Crystal!"(Why’s it always Luna who has to tell Usagi and Chibi to use their Silver Crystals?) : "Okay!": "How… No, my body!! Gwaaaaa!"[Apsu disintegrates, leaving only Sin behind. The void fades to black, with our heroes appearing back in Crystal Tokyo]: "Where am I…?": "Near the Crystal Palace.": "Why did you save me!? We’re enemies!": "Eh, I don’t know.": "We don’t want to hate anyone.": "It might have been because of Sailor Moon."Redeeming enemies is just her thing, man! As long as you’re not like, a sociopath or the literal embodiment of evil, she’s always willing to extend a hand in friendship. : "I lost..."Oh, quit being a baby you still have - : "Sin, your friends are here, and your brother Anshar too."What Mercury said. : "Anshar was so worried about you, Sin.": "Yeah! If you’re alive, you should have given us a call or something.": "Yeah, it’s great that you’re okay.": "He was crying, you know.": "Hey, you promised not to tell her that!"Awwww, this is surprisingly wholesome after all the stuff we went through. "Thank you...": "What are you talking about?": "Yeah Sin, thanks to you we’re all alive.": "You helped us come all this way.": "Yeah, because of Sin, we’re all friends now! Or should we thank Apsu for that?"So what exactly changed things here? Was Chibi’s Silver Crystal not powerful enough to stop the time thing? I definitely know that Anshar interfering would cause problems with him taking the brunt of Demon Apsu’s attack, so that may be it. : "She’s saying weird things again.": "Hehehe… Ishtar may be right. It could have been Apsu that brought us all together.": "See! Ishtar knows what she’s talking about! ": "Why, you...!": "Hahaha!": "Yes?": "This is yours…"[He shows her the heart-shaped pendant]"I thought I lost it during the parade. Thank you… you had it all along.": "I was just keeping it until I could give it back… If it’s okay… will you see me again?": "Sure! " [She leans in and -]Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I can’t handle it, I’m going to die of terminal adorable. : "Bye, Anshar!"You lucky guy, getting a kiss from the princess. Honestly with everything he's had to endure this entire game, this is way more satisfying than what the Bad Ending threw at us. : "What?": "Anshar is your boyfriend?": "You saw? Mow! It’s rude to peep, Mamo-chan!"Oh man it’s always awkward when the parents learn about your first kiss. : "It’s alright.": "Well, as the old proverb goes, ‘people who are alike, eat each other’."Uh… : "Umm, don’t you mean ‘people who are alike, ATTRACT each other’?"Thanks for the save Jupiter, cause that was about to turn weird real quick. : "Chibi-Usa, you’re just like Anshar… having a loving sister and all.": "Well… it’s not quite the same...’": "I must now return to the Tower of Time.""Sailor Moon, take care of Small Lady."Awww, already? I don’t want to say goodbye to Time Stop, even if I don’t use it unless it’s absolutely necessary. : "Don’t worry, I will.": "Lady, do not be selfish.": "I’m not selfish!": "Now…"[Pluto disappears]: "Bye, Pluto."[Current OST: Friends]: "Yeah.": "Fate is a strange thing.": "Sometimes you think you’re being controlled by an invisible force."Is… is this a fourth wall break? I can’t really tell. : "But, that really isn’t true.": "Saying it’s just fate and giving up is easy…": "But I’ve seen what real fate is like. From Usagi!"[Usagi blushes]: "Hey, you’re embarrassing me!": Ugh… : "Hotaru, what’s wrong!?"(Side-note: It's weird seeing the soldiers in their civilian clothes after so long.) : "Another enemy again…?"We defeated every single opponent in the series so far and then some. I’d be amazed if anybody was still around to cause trouble. : "Hotaru! Hotaru!!": "I’m okay… My destiny is just returning to normal… "Don't scare me like that, jeez. : "Yes, she’s turning back into our baby."Ohhhh boy this is gonna take a bit to explain. So! At the end of Super after Saturn and Moon defeat Pharaoh 90, the cost of Hotaru using her planet buster powers was to revert back into a baby. Haruka and Michiru volunteered to raise her as their child alongside the now cured Dr. Tomoe. The story of Sailor Moon gets pretty wild sometimes. : "Sorry Chibi-Usa, but it’s time to say goodbye.": "No… don’t go…": "Saying goodbye a second time is sad, but I hope we can play again someday.": "Hotaru...": "Usagi, everyone… I’m happy we had a chance to fight together. I thought I might have to use my powers to make this world a void, but it wasn’t necessary."Dude. She was ready to nuke the planet if we couldn’t defeat Demon Apsu. That’s CRAZY.We sure dodged a bullet on that one, huh? : "Stay safe, everyone..."[Hotaru floats into the air and, in a flash of light, reverts into the form of a baby]It’s weird how destiny works. We could save Sin and the Opposito from getting trapped in a vicious cycle of hatred, yet Hotaru can’t stop herself from turning back into a child. : "Then, goodbye everyone.": "I’m praying we don’t have to meet for another battle.": "But if something goes wrong, contact us."Haruka’s words are pretty heavy. I’m kinda content with this happy ending, do we have to fight more bad guys later on? : "See you all tomorrow.": "Bye." [She goes offscreen with Artemis]: "Bye, Usagi.": "See you at school!": "Usagi, it’s almost exam time. Let’s do our best!": "Erk!"(Never change, you big meatball.) : "Good luck!": [sigh]: "Now, go study Usako.": "Okay… see you tomorrow."Fighting the literal Deity of Destruction was fine, but studying for the exams? Literally impossible. [Everyone but Chibi and Usagi walk offscreen, followed by a cut to black]"It’s time for dinner!": "Okay!"[Both girls go inside, with both of them saying “I’m home”][Current OST: Title Screen Theme]Well, that's really it, huh? We saved the world (and maybe all of time now that I think about it) from the clutches of Shaman Apsu, redeemed the Opposito and even got Chibi-Usa a boyfriend. All in all, a complete success. This game, man... it's not the best, but it invokes such strong emotions from me (mostly positive) that I can't help but love it. I really do yearn for a modern remake, but that's still firmly pipe dream territory because I don't think they even make Sailor Moon games anymore... let alone a game this ambitious. That said, I hope you all enjoyed it and finishing this for me has been especially cathartic. That stems mainly from, well... I don't think most people have even seen the true ending with how hard Demon Apsu is. The character bios and the final thoughts are bound to come up soon, but for now? -------------------------------------------------------------- Final Set-Up (Inners): (Usagi, level 52, , Inner Senshi) - "Wow! You made my favorite food today?! Thanks, mama!" (Ami, level 51, , Inner Senshi) - [Cramming hard for the next test] (Rei, level 51, , Inner Senshi) - "Ahhh! Finally, sometime to relax after all that crazy stuff. I've never missed my own bed so much..." (Makoto, level 51, , Inner Senshi) - "Wonder what we're gonna do tomorrow?" (Minako, level 52, , Inner Senshi) - "I dunno about you Mako, but I'm itching to go to the arcade to get my mind off of all this destiny junk. If it weren't for Usagi, I have no idea how I could have handled this." (Chibi-Usa, level 48, , Outer Senshi) - "Thanks for the food, mama Ikuko!"-Outers: (Haruka, level 46, , Outer Senshi) - "Do you think this peace will last, Michiru? But even then... we're soldiers. We're always supposed to be prepared for a fight." (Michiru, level 46, , Outer Senshi) - "Something tells me it will. This entire adventure's been rough on us, so just relax, Haruka. " (Sailor Pluto, level 47, , Outer Senshi) - "Small Lady, Usagi... you two are destined for greatness. As long as you two are together, your bond can never be broken."* (Hotaru is a baby and does not count as part of the team anymore) ~Fun Sailor Moon Fact~: I honestly don't have much left that I haven't already covered, so I'll just say that Ms. Naoko Takeuchi was born on March 15th, 1967. (If it were one month later it would be in my birthmonth, but alas.)

| Not much else to say besides "I had fun". Bonus Chapter - Final Team Set-Up ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spoiler:
(How fortunate that this screen has all the data I need, huh?) Sailor Moon is, funnily enough, not the strongest character despite being the title protagonist and the primary monster killer on the show. She's more of a tank/support character in that she keeps the others alive while barely taking any damage due to her massive defense. Honestly it fits her personality. Super Sailor Moon is awesome but impractical due to only having one expensive move and not much else, unfortunately. The only person she can link tech with in thi sstate is Super Chibi Moon, and even then they're not that good for a real boss fight. Also, have the voice clips from the same site I took my bestiary info from: * Attack* Damaged* Moon Healing Escalation* Moon Spiral Heart Attack* BONUS: Sailor Planet AttackMercury served the same role as Moon, more or less, but had one key difference: SHABON SPRAY. The ability to lower enemy attack in this game is a godsend, which is pretty notable considering that attack wasn't even used to directly harm enemies in the show. Here though, bubbles can be a lifesaver. It's just a shame they never tell you this and I don't even remember the way I discovered this. Maybe it was from trial and error. Aside from that, Mercury's a sturdy tank and surprisingly quick, making her a great medic. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Shabon Spray* Shine Aqua Illusion* Mercury Aqua MirageMars and Jupiter kinda blended together after a certain point - they were raw power with incredible HP and speed, but they crumbled the instant a strong enemy so much as looked at them. I do like the inclusion of obscure attacks like Fire Soul Bird and Coconut Cyclone, but aside from that, both girls are fantastic offensive units. Fire Snake and Thunder Dragon are such cool attacks though. Why couldn't that be a link tech - a plasma dragon attack that hits everyone? That'd be rad as hell. Mars voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Fire Soul* Burning Mandala* Mars Snake FireJupiter voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Supreme Thunder* Sparkling Wide Pressure* Jupiter Coconut CycloneVenus served as a more defensive counterpart to Mars and Jupiter, but also lacked their speed. This is fine enough, but her true usefulness came in the form of the link tech she had with Moon - Healing Shower. A full party attack boost that can also be layered with Fragrances? Please, I sleep on the enemies with overpowered shit like that. My only problem with Venus is that she only has one multi-enemy move in the form of Crescent Beam Shower. Aside from that, she's a decent fighter. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Crescent Beam* Venus Love Me Chain* Venus Wink SwordChibi Moon is effectively the game's joke character, as mean as that sounds. Her only attack is Pink Sugar Heart Attack, the universal punchline of special attacks in Sailor Moon as it does pitiful damage and doesn't even have a reasonable MP cost. (That said, when it's paired up with Uranus's Space Sword Blaster it suddenly becomes deadly...) Her defense also suffers because she takes critical injuries even from the back row, which should be impossible given how this game calculates damage. Her speed, on the other hand, is what makes her good to have: she casually outpaces the other girls without even looking back, making her an excellent pinch healer. If I remember correctly, if she has all of her special equipment she reaches 255 speed instantly, which is... that's Made In Heaven fast. You don't want to mess with someone as quick as that. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Pink Sugar Heart AttackOoh boy, the Outers! Uranus is easily my favorite of the bunch due to her serving as the Mars/Jupiter/Venus of the Outers - strong glass cannon with a ton of health. Sure, she suffers when she has to survive a fight, but when she can shatter the enemy with a few Space Sword Blasters? That's pretty good. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* World Shaking* Space Sword BlasterNeptune is, uh... not that great, unfortunately. Yeah, she serves as a good tank due to her high defense, but she doesn't really... stand out compared to the others? I'd honestly say she's the least interesting Senshi of the entire group. What kills me with her is the fact Deep Submerge and Submarine Reflection are essentially the same moves, but one costs more to use. This would have been a perfect opportunity to have Submarine Reflection be an all-enemy defense drop given how it was used to expose the fake Germatoids in the show, but they didn't do that. Shame. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Deep Submerge* Submarine ReflectionHoo boy, here we go. Pluto breaks the game in half just by existing. Sure, her stats are pitiful and her moves don't really help... with Time Stop being the obvious exception, of course. I'm just astonished that they allow Time Stop to freeze every enemy and boss in the game. Sure it drains all of her MP, but it's not hard to restore in the slightest with all the Colognes/Toilettes. Pluto is also a plot-required character to get - not using Time Stop is your decision, but it's still incredibly tempting. I held back to just using her when necessary because I wanted to have some challenge and see how tough the game really was without her help. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Dead Scream* Chronos Cyclone(Funny how Time Stop doesn't even have a specific voice clips, she just yells.) And to top everything off, we have Saturn! Saturn was an... odd case among the playable characters. She doesn't have a big gimmick like Pluto or is even all that strong compared to the likes of Uranus and the Inners, but that's the thing. Saturn wanted to play it safe, as indicated by her comment in the ending. If she were to use all of her power, she would wind up nuking the earth and die in the process, hence why she only has one cheap but effective attack. It makes sense that she has a tremendous defense rating with this in mind. If you stack her up with a Red Pupil (both preferably) and just spam Death Ribbon/Reborn Revolution, you could probably win the entire game like this. It's boring but practical, which I assume is the direction they were going for. Not my style though, hence why I didn't do it this way. Voice clips: * Attack* Damaged* Death Reborn RevolutionAnd before we go, one last oddity: There's not many cheats in this game, but there is at least a big one: If you hold X at the title screen and press start, everyone will start off at level 16. Why does it do this? I don't know, to make the game more accessible for newcomers? At the very least it prevents you from grinding for the Inner Senshi solo chapters. It also makes sense - Usagi and the crew just finished with the events of season 3 (aka. Super), so why wouldn't they be able to stomp on the first wave of old enemies they encounter?

| This let's play started in November 2017 and ended in April 2019. See what I mean about Sailor Moon getting delayed hard? It's cathartic to finally get this done. Final Thoughts---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Rating scale: Excellent (84 – 100) Good(70-83) Average(50 -69) Bad – also counts as B-Movie So Bad It’s Good in case I happen to enjoy it (35 – 49) Awful (34 to 0)) Full Title: Sailor Moon: Another StoryOriginally published: September 22nd, 1995 Type: JRPG Length: I want to say 15 hours or more, since there's not really an in-game timer to keep track of how much time you invested. Difficulty: Starts off easy and then dives deep into very hard. The grinding does not help. Developers/Artists/Etc.: Masayuki Sato (Executive Producer), Joji Yuno (Director/Producer), Arbeiter Siina (Programmer), Takanori Arisawa (Composer), Shūichi Miyazawa (Graphic Designer/Planner), etc. Overall Plot: Sailor Moon and her team of sailor soldiers have to fight off their evil counterparts, the Opposito Senshi, and prevent them from changing Destiny for the worse. The side effect of this is that all of Sailor Moon's old villains to come back to life/turn back evil again, so it's effectively a massive internal crossover. Pros & Cons – · The graphics are impressive for a SNES RPG - all of the characters, even minor ones, perfectly resemble characters from the show. The amount of detail they've put in is ridiculous.· The fact you can play as all ten Sailor Senshi is fantastic - including characters like Pluto and Saturn is great fanservice because their use in both the show and manga is (unfortunately) limited. It's also super impressive that the Senshi have combination attacks - yes, there's only like three that really matter, but the effort is what blows me out the water.· The music ranges from serviceable to very nice, since most of it is sampled from the anime's soundtrack. Special mentions go out to Apsu's theme, the Ark theme, the Crystal Tokyo themes and the normal boss theme.· There's actually voice clips from the original anime actresses in here! That's pretty crazy.· Anshar and Sin are some of the most interesting characters in the entire story - Sin is motivated to protect her brother after their parents were killed by the Black Moon and Anshar wants to seek a relationship with the princess of Crystal Tokyo but feels the societal divide between them is stopping him. It becomes an increasingly fascinating dynamic to analyze as the story goes on, especially as they use main character Usagi's relationship with her own brother as a parallel.· Apsu is a surprisingly complex villain from the little that can be inferred about her. It's implied she's a breast cancer victim and the entire point of her goal throughout the story is to use the Silver Crystal so she doesn't, like... die? Yeah, she gets caught up in the generic "take over the world" mantra but her condition and the depths she'll go to manipulate the Opposito is what makes her interesting to watch.· The other Opposito, while not as fleshed out as the three leaders, are interesting parallels to their Sailor Senshi counterparts. The fact they're Mesopotamian inspired vs. the Roman theming of the good guys lends to this, and I'm always a sucker for evil counterparts in fiction anyway. · Fighting all the previous villains in one game and how they react to the changes in Sailor Moon's group is massive fanservice, even if I feel they could have done a bit more with it.· The length is around the same as Chrono Trigger (aka. short for an RPG) even if the progression from point A to point B isn't as graceful. · I like that the four Inners (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus) get solo chapters dedicated to them and that they all go to different parts of the world instead of just sticking to Japan.· The combat, while not amazing, is still decent with its unique ideas. The formation system employed in this game makes where you put your Senshi of choice actually matter, and the fact all the Senshi have unique poses and animations is a nice touch. The different buffing items you get really do help when it comes to making boss fights easier.· The good ending is genuinely heartwarming, so it makes most of the crazy adventure worth it.· The reward for completing the puzzle is actually worth it, on top of it being a nice-looking picture.· The fact there's a hint person in the solo chapters that tells you where to go and what to do is excellent, especially since this game came out before the internet was a thing· This game uses some animations from Chrono Trigger, such as Luminaire, but they weren't made by the same company. (Bandai vs Squaresoft)· This game was only released in Japan, unfortunately. It's also notable for being the only Sailor Moon RPG in existence, as most other Sailor Moon licensed games are fighting games, beat-em-ups or puzzle games.· The story gets out of control after a while, especially once time travel is more involved. It's made worse if you're not a Sailor Moon fan, so you'll be confused on two different fronts by the time the game's half over. The comet that's brought up in the game's intro has no relevance until the end of the game, and even then it's unclear what happened with it.· Speaking as a Sailor Moon fan, the inconsistencies they brought in don't make sense. Sometimes they blend together two different backstories (aka. manga vs. anime) for some characters, like Doctor Tomoe who lived in the anime but died as a Daimon in the manga. I'll only keep it to that example to prevent this entry from getting bloated, but just know that I get headaches from this stuff too.· The boss fight with Opposito Nabu in Mercury's chapter was needlessly difficult since her defense skyrockets in the second encounter. Keep in mind there's a long, unskippable cutscene that plays every time you fight her, so losing only exacerbates the problem.· Despite the game's smooth early progression, everything past the Black Moon Invasion is extremely difficult. Special shout-out goes out to the true final boss for being a bit overpowered. It's to the point where you need to excessively grind or complete the puzzle to get some super-equipment. It does throw you an easier version should you lose, but it's kinda the opposite extreme (aka. super easy) and nets you the bad ending.· The fact the game has mechanics that it never tells you about, like Mercury's ability to lower enemy attack with Shabon Spray and that pressing Y while riding the Ark (long story) takes you to the moon. Given how difficult the game becomes as it goes on, information like this is necessary. My suggestion would be to have a "hint" system attached to moves so you know what their effects are, but that's just me writing down game design notes for later.· Another Story uses random encounters and there's no repel function to stop them from overwhelming you while just travelling through a dungeon. It gets old real fast, especially if you're just trying to go from one place to another.· The game has serious balance issues. Blocking reduces damage taken to single digits regardless of your level and having Pluto's Time Stop affect every enemy, even bosses, just breaks the game in half. Perhaps this is how they tried to balance the ridiculous difficulty late-game?· There's stuff you can permanently lose out on multiple times. I don't know why they designed the game like this, but if you don't search everywhere you will lose out on unique equipment for your characters and even an extra boss fight that gives you a pretty powerful accessory. Lost Forever scenarios bother me even in my favorite games, but it's so brutal here that it kinda sours my taste of the game.· The fact you stop getting puzzle pieces after progressing through a certain amount of the story. If you are even one piece short after the point of no return, you will never be able to complete it. Just... why.· Not purely the fault of the game itself, but the English translation patch has multiple errors and inconsistencies to the point where it becomes distracting.Final Thoughts (76/100)Another Story is a complex game for me to describe. On one hand, it's a competent JRPG and a fantastic licensed game with an interesting original premise practically made for Sailor Moon fans. On the other, it's unbalanced, has an incomprehensible plot and the sudden difficulty often acts as a roadblock towards actually enjoying the game. The game lacks a certain polish, but it's still clear to me that they poured a ton of love and attention into Another Story. It's not just a throwaway fighting or puzzle game with Sailor Moon plastered on it. The unique ideas they threw in like the formation system, the link techs and so on give the game a sense of identity and help it stand out on it own. It doesn't quite reach the high standard of its contemporaries (Final Fantasy 4-6, Chrono Trigger, etc.) but I'm positive that if most of its flaws were addressed (aka. the puzzle/lost equipment thing, the difficulty being lowered and a rewrite to make the game more inclusive to even non-Sailor Moon fans) then it'd be a smash hit. As it is right now, though? It was pretty special to me a few years back when I first discovered it due to my love of the franchise, but it definitely has its flaws. In conclusion, it's a good game, but not amazing. Maybe I should get back to Trickster and see what else I can push out there. Either way, thanks for watching. | |
